"The Hope Six Demolition Project" trae ispirazione dai numerosi viaggi intrapresi da PJ, che, nel corso di un periodo di quattro anni, ha trascorso il tempo in Kosovo, Afghanistan e Washington DC. L'album, che segue "Let England Shake" – vincitore del Mercury Prize nel 2011 -, è stato registrato nel corso del 2015 alla Somerset House, il centro culturale più importante di Londra, dove PJ, la sua band, gli ingegneri del suono e i produttori Flood e John Parish, hanno lavorato a tutte le fasi del disco in uno studio di registrazione, appositamente costruito dietro ad un vetro, per consentire al pubblico di osservare ciò che succedeva all’interno.
